BOOK REVIEW - History Is All You Left Me by Adam Silvera

This book was insane! I first started this and haven't given it much thought especially because I haven't read anything by Adam before (big mistake). I finished this in two days because I was really anticipating how the story would end. It had me from laughing like an idiot to full on tears in minutes.

History Is All You Left Me is about two guys, Theo and Griffin who have been best friends for a while, then their friendship started taking a turn into a full-on relationship. The pair break up and Theo gets another boyfriend, Jackson. Time passes and Theo unfortunately dies in a terrible accident that has both Griffin and Jackson meet at Theo's funeral in New York. They aren't fans of each other and they've always wanted to cut each other out, but they got over their feud to form an unlikely friendship so they would comfort each others' heartache over their mutual love for Theo.

I loved the diversity of the book. It has the LGBTQ+ characters, one of the main characters has OCD which was portrayed perfectly well, the self-discovery aspect was on point.

I obviously gave this book a 4 out of 5 stars because of the emotions it sparked in me, it could have been a 5 out of 5, but the direction that this book went into was not in my favor I think... The writing style flowed so easily and Adam has this distinct way of writing that makes me want to devour all of his other books. I recommend this to absolutely everyone, it's a great fast-paced read that had me thinking. It includes love and friendship and many other beautiful things so go read it NOW.

If you have read this, comment down below your thoughts! Would love to hear from you and recommend me similar books to this because I thoroughly enjoyed it.

THE FEEEELSSSS!!! Theo and Griffin's relationship was perfect, it was so cute it had me smiling all the time I was reading about their history and to see Griffin so engrossed in his sadness over Theo made me have actual tears in my eyes. I loved how they came out to each other, I loved their first kiss and how Griffin was all nervous around him. I loved every single detail about this right to the point where I knew future Theo had a boyfriend and I was so mad at Theo for breaking up with Griff (or that's what I thought because Griffin was still madly in love with him) and I hated Jackson's guts for intervening between these two and being an obstacle for why they couldn't just easily get back together. #TeamGriffin

As the story progressed, I came to terms with the fact that Theo is a major asshole who wanted to have it all, he kept Griffin waiting and it wasn't healthy for him to tell Griffin upright that if he came to California he'd leave Jackson for him.. and later on we find out that Theo was so allegedly in love with Jackson that he let him in on the different kinds of kisses thing and why would someone do that? I don't hate Theo but I was so disappointed and heartbroken. I've always thought that Theo was so in love with Griffin that he just found a Griff substitute in California to be use and be with for the time being which isn't okay, but I was rooting for this relationship so hard.

Let's move on to the Wade aspect of the story. I knew he had a thing for Griffin ever since that Cedric Diggory key chain! He mentioned it earlier when they both got him the wrong gift and then when Wade actually did it, it was clear to me who paid attention to him more and who was actually worthy of Griffin's love.

It was sad to see Griffin always waiting on Theo, always obsessive over him in a way that wasn't fair for him because he deserved so much better, but I know how it is being with someone or being attached to someone who isn't healthy for you and you become so blinded and couldn't see the truth because you're just too in love. It's sad but it's a road to self-discovery and I'm glag Griffin went through that so he could learn and grow and know his self-worth.

I'm BACK! & I have something to tell you..

Hello people! I'm back!

I know, it feels kind of foreign to be writing on here again, but I'm here and that's all what I have to say. I owe you guys an explanation for why I was afraid of approaching blogging, it is the fact that I haven't been reading and I have fell into a slump that I don't know how to possibly get out of. I have stopped reading and have only read like 4 books in total throughout late 2016 and 2017. It sucks because I love reading and writing so much. They bring me a sense of euphoria that nothing else gives me, but I can't seem to extract myself from the shitthole that I've fallen into.

I've been sick for the last couple of days and haven't left my room in a while so that had me thinking.. who am I? I know that this question is easily answered by having a glance at my ID, but no. I haven't lost my mind quite yet. I want to discuss this, but forgive my scattered, unorganized thoughts.

I have those days when I'm very goal-oriented, I know where my life is going, I know what I have to do to pave the way for that to happen. I never once really knew what my purpose is in life though, I was never sure of what I want to be, I have endless possibilities of who I could be in 10 or 20 years and I can't fathom the idea that I could make one wrong decision that puts me on the wrong path for years and when I finally reroute I'd be 60 years old and my life has wasted away. Don't get me wrong, I'm a firm believer in the fact that everything happens for a reason, but I'm too young right now (I'm 20) and I have no idea what I'm doing.

Whenever I see people my age doing great things it motivates me to move my butt and do something, but yet again, I feel like my hands are tied for multiple reasons;
1- I still study, therefore I cannot get a steady job
2- I live with my parents
3- I'm unable to finance myself due to the previously stated two reasons, therefore I lack the sense of independence.
4- Here in Egypt, people don't fucking take you seriously when you're 20 years old even if you have ideas of gold.
5- The willingness of people to take risks here is minimal, especially to follow the idea of said 20 year old, they'd be insane.
6- I'm a girl surrounded by sexist pieces of shit.

I instantly slide back into my cocoon of sadness and continue to watch people being successful as my ability to be up there with them is hindered by all stated reasons. I also look at this from another perspective and say well if I was really willing to try, I would've thrown all those 6 points in the nearest garbage possible and proven myself fit. I often think that these are excuses that I created to lessen the guilt factor and my sense of shame.

Can I have a midlife crisis at 20? I keep telling myself that I need to chill and loosen up a bit, let the wave of life turn and toss me to eventually become who I'm destined to become, but fuck, I can't let this happen and not have a hand in doing so. I mean those who are successful really struggled to be where they are, even if there was a little bit of luck involved, but it was the right timing for luck and hard work to meet. It's quite contradictory of me because I believe that those who work hard enough will not be left unrewarded, but it's hard to think something and act on it.. I don't know.

Please tell me if you have the same thoughts, I hope I'm not crazy for not knowing my purpose or who on earth am I yet. I'm still figuring this shit out so don't judge my crazy train of thoughts.

I need your help with something, if you've made it this far, thank you! You're a trooper. Can you do me one more favor and recommend me a good pick me up book? Preferably a short myserty thriller.

Give me a feedback on this post, as I'm not reading anything atm and I want to get back into writing, do you find sharing my thoughts entertaining or just boring?!! Comment down below :)

REVIEW | My Heart and Other Black Holes by Jasmine Warga

Trigger warning for suicide

This follows Aysel, a science nerd who battles with depression and wants to commit suicide so she starts searching for a suicide partner on a website and finds one who lives really close; Roman. Roman is a star athlete who is extremely popular, but battles with his own suicidal thoughts. The pair decides to make a Suicide Pact and decide to plan their deaths together.

This book was absolutely beautiful. First off, the writing was easy to read so the book felt like it was very fast-paced. The author put this tone in her writing that is inviting to read which made me read this in 2 sittings (which is rare for me because I haven’t picked up a book since April). I found that later, the author wrote this based on a personal traumatic experience which made the story more heart-felt than it already is.

Aysel was an admirable character. She seemed a little bit fiery and irritable at first, but in the end she had problems of her own. To be honest, I didn’t feel for her story as much as I felt for Roman because I didn’t get any backstory from her until the very end which really annoyed me. On the other hand, Roman was the highlight of this whole entire book. I loved him and my heart ached for him in every page I turn.

The contrast between the two characters was intriguing.  It was an amazing representation from the author that anyone can suffer from depression. The most popular guy in school who seems to have a perfect life can suffer from depression and contrary to that, the girl who walks the hallways with her face down while listening to the whispers of her schoolmates. It is great to shed light on the fact that you never ever know what somebody else is going through, no matter how happy or sad they seem on the outside.
I recommend this book to everyone, it’s amazingly written with very lovable characters, but be cautious, this is definitely a tear jerker. This book is extremely sad throughout the whole thing so mentally prepare for it!
